Conversation or dialogue

Write an interesting and humorous conversation among three students. They are complaining about the food sold in and unhygienic conditions of the school canteen.

Devi              :  What shall we take for lunch?
Mandy          :  Let us have “Nasi Lemak” today.
Swee Keng   :  Oh no! Don’t you know that a boy was just sent to the hospital after he ate
                         the “Nasi Lemak” yesterday?
Mandy          :  How about Ah Soh’s spicy curry noodles?
Devi              : No, I think it is expensive. A bowl of noodles costs RM 5.
Swee Keng   : Hem…… let’s try the “Roti Canai”. My friend said that it is very delicious
                         and cheap!
Devi              : This is not a good idea. I often see the hawker “digging” his nose. Worse
still, after doing that, he wipes his finger on his T-shirt. Then he continues
                        to make the “Roti Canai”.
Swee Keng   : What? Are you kidding?
Devi              : Of course not!
Mandy          : Fortunately, I have a few slices of bread in my “tiffin –box”. We can share
                        them if you both want.
Swee Keng   : I think we should eat Mandy’s bread instead.
Devi              : I agree. I don’t want to be next hospital victim.

A Meaningful Teaching Journey

Once upon a time, we always dreamed of being teachers. On 23 June 2011, it was no more a dream. We went to Kampung Timah and took the challenge to experience 3 hours of teaching section. We were assigned to guide students one to one.   At first, we were shock to see students to be so hyperactive in SMK YES compare to our schooling time.  After meeting with our students, we began with Bahasa Melayu following by English teaching section. It was awkward when we it comes teaching.  We felt nervous and clumsy in delivering the meaning to students. Maybe it is hilarious, but we have to admit that it was harder than presentation!

After some time, we began to adapt with it, and manage to communicate well with the students. Besides, we tried to explain the text in Chinese to give a better understanding to the students. Most of the students are weak in their bahasa, so it will be an advantage to them by interpreting the text with Chinese language. It was a great satisfaction when students learn and follow what we taught. We were overwhelmed with joy to see students getting flying colours after a test given to them. Due to limitation of time, we were forced to cancel the game section.

In every event, there is always a difficulty. Most of the students in SMK YES were obedient, but there are still students behave to be rude. We have student who refuse to listen to us, but we manage to go along well after some time. At the end of the section, we knew that their behavior is just to draw our attention, hoping that we can guide on them.

Overall, we have a great time to be there as a part-time teacher and we are happy to have an opportunity sharing our knowledge to the students. After this meaningful event, we knew that we need to work harder to gain student’s enthusiasm towards study. Not each and every one of us has the gift to teach, some of us may find it difficult to teach. It is easy to spoil a kid, but it takes 10 years to bring up a child. It is never sufficient for us to raise knowledge in mere few hours; just like farmers, they need to fertilize and water their crops in order to have a massive harvest. There is no free lunch in this world, nothing comes without hard work, and we hope that these students will study hard in the near future. Furthermore, we hope that there will be more meaningful event like this to be held in the future. It would be a great experience for all UTAR students.
